Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of Ducati 748:
- The fuel efficiency (shown as fuel consumption above) shows how efficient is a certain motorcycle in converting the chemical energy of the fuel into kinetic energy. It is usually measured by how many liters are needed to travel 100 kilometers (L/100km) or by what distance in miles can be traveled with one gallon of fuel (mpg). In the average case Ducati 748 will burn 5.80 liters on every 100km of your trip. That is based on the technical specifications of the motorcycle and may vary depending on several factors as style of riding, temperature, road condition etc. As per the MPG number it will run for 40.6 miles while burning one gallon of fuel. So if Ducati 748 has a tank full of 4.5 gallons of fuel it can be ridden for 182 miles till we run out of gas. Of course we better make sure we top it up again before that happens.
- 748 cc engine size (displacement) - this is the total volume enclosed in the movement of all pistons in the engine cylinders from their bottom to their top position in a stroke. Engines with bigger displacement volume tend to produce more power and usually have bigger fuel consumption. The Ducati 748 engine has a displacement volume of 748 cc according to the specifications above and is specified in cubic centimeters but can also be measured in liters.
- 150 mm ground clearance is the shortest distance measured from the ground to the chassis of 748. Motorcycles with lower ground clearance would have better handling as their center of gravity will be lower than average.Ducati 748 bore and stroke explaination
- Bore and stroke 88x61.5 - these parameters may be presented as bore/stroke ratio in some technical specifications. This ratio refers to the diameter of the cylinder bore divided by the length of the piston stroke. According to the technical specifications of Ducati 748 its bore is 88 mm and the stroke is 61.5 mm. Because the length of the stroke for this Ducati engine is smaller than the diameter of the cylinder (bore) we say that 748 has a short stroke engine.
- 11.5:1 compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. To avoid engine knocking when compression ratio is high those motorcycles might be recommended to use premium fuel only. Engines with higher compression ratio are more energy efficient because they are able to extract more mechanical energy from a certain amount of fuel.
- Chain final drive: Depending on the purpose of the motorcycle and its characteristics usually one among the three possible final drive options is preferred. On sport bikes the chain drive is preferred while most cruisers and touring bikes tend to be designed with belt or shaft drive. All of them are workable technologies and have proved that over the years. The final drive of Ducati 748 is chain.
motorcycle driven by chainOne of the most economical way to drive horsepower from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle is achieved with the chain drive and therefore it is still the most used among the three options by bike manufacturers. The down points of the chain drive are the frequent maintenance required as it needs to be regularly cleaned and oiled. Besides it is not as smooth as a shaft or belt drive.
- Liquid cooling system: heat management and biker's comfort are some of the major concerns for the motorcycle manufacturers. While air cooled bikes are better cooled while in motion, the liquid cooled motorcycles have pumps, radiators and fans to deal with the heat even at idle speed.Ducati 748 turn signals - replacement
- Replacing the turn signals of Ducati 748 is not a difficult undertaking and usually turns out to be much simpler than expected. When disconnecting the wires of your motorcycle turn signals it is advisable to stick distinct tapes on them if they are not color coded. The next step is to locate the bolts that hold them in position. There should not be any confusion connecting the new Ducati 748 turn signals after they are placed since the wires have been properly marked.Ducati 748 protective cover
When choosing a motorcycle cover the dimensions of the Ducati 748 should be taken into consideration. Please keep in mind that any additional aftermarket accessories can increase the dimensions of the bike. In case the motorcycle has saddle bags or windshield then it will most likely need a larger protective cover.
