Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of BMW K1600GT:
- The fuel consumption (fuel economy) of a motorcycle shows either the mileage that can be achieved with a certain amount of fuel (mpg) or the amount of fuel needed to cover certain mileage (L/100km). In the average case BMW K1600GT will burn 5.70 liters on every 100km of your trip. That is based on the technical specifications of the motorcycle and may vary depending on several factors as style of riding, temperature, road condition etc. As per the MPG number it will run for 41.3 miles while burning one gallon of fuel. As we already know its fuel efficiency and fuel tank capacity we can easily calculate that if the tank is full we can ride it 288 miles till we run out of gas. However we better not try it because the gas stations are never where we desperately need them to be.
- 1649 cc engine displacement - that is the volume enclosed by the movement of the pistons from their lower to their upper position in the cylinders. The more cubic centimeters the displacement volume the more power the engine generates. The displacement is commonly specified in cc (cubic centimeters) or liters and based on the BMW K1600GT specifications its engine displacement is 1649 cubic centimeters.
- 165 mm ground clearance - this can be defined as the distance between the lowest point of the K1600GT's chassis and the level ground surface below it. Lower ground clearance means better handling while higher clearance equals more practicality.Bore and stroke diagram of BMW K1600GT
- 72x67.5 bore and stroke - bore is the diameter of the piston which equals the inside diameter of the engine cylinder. On the other hand stroke is the maximum length that the piston travels up and down inside the cylinder every stroke. The bore diameter of BMW K1600GT is 72 mm and the stroke length is 67.5 mm as per its technical specification. For this particular BMW engine bore is bigger than stroke meaning that K1600GT has a short stroke engine.
- 12.2:1 compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. Premium fuel might be recommended for some motorcycles with high levels of compression ration in order to avoid engine knocking. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
- Shaft final drive: If you wonder which of the final drive variations is best in driving power from the engine to the rear wheel, the answer is that all of them have specific advantages and may surpass the rest in performance on certain occasions and style of riding. All three variations of final drive have been used for a very long time and each of them has proved to be successful one. The final drive of BMW K1600GT is shaft.
shaft final driveShaft drive means minimum maintenance and care and at the same time clean, quiet and smooth way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel of the motorcycle. All the cares this drive needs is draining and changing its oil on certain mileage. Shaft drives on the other hand make the bike more expensive and a bit heavier. If we need to go in details then it should be mentioned that a small amount of power is lost with them because of the moving gears involved.
- Liquid cooling system: both air and liquid cooling systems serve the same purpose to keep the engine in an optimal temperature range and they both have their advantages. While air cooled bikes are better cooled while in motion, the liquid cooled motorcycles have pumps, radiators and fans to deal with the heat even at idle speed.Turn signals replacement of BMW K1600GT
- If you decided to fix the turn signals of your BMW K1600GT yourself there is nothing to worry about as that is indeed an easy DIY task. As the motorcycle turn signals cables are generally color coded it would not be a hassle disconnecting and reconnecting the wires. After locating the bolts that hold them in position you will have to remove them. After making sure that the new BMW K1600GT turn signals sit in the housing properly you may proceed with connecting the wires.BMW K1600GT protective cover
The dimensions of the BMW K1600GT are important when choosing a motorcycle cover. The overall measures of the bike could be increased by some aftermarket accessories. In case the motorcycle has saddle bags or windshield then it will most likely need a larger protective cover.
