Additional notes regarding the technical specifiaction of BMW K1200GT:
- Fuel consumption (economy) is usually presented in L/100km (shows how many liters of fuel it consumes per 100 kilometers) or in MPG (shows how many miles it can go with one gallon of fuel). In the specific case the fuel economy of BMW K1200GT allows you to ride 37.3 miles with one gallon of fuel or in other words it will burn 6.30 liters of fuel on a 100 kilometers (62 miles) run. If we know that BMW K1200GT has a fuel tank capacity of 24.0 liters and its fuel economy is 37.3mpg (based on the technical specifications data above) then we can calculate the run it can achieve with a topped up tank and it is 236 miles.
- 1157 cc engine displacement (engine size) - this is the total swept volume of all the pistons in the cylinders when they are performing a complete stroke. In the common case bigger displacement of the engine means more horse power and more fuel consumption. The displacement is commonly specified in cc (cubic centimeters) or liters and based on the BMW K1200GT specifications its engine displacement is 1157 cubic centimeters.
- 180 mm ground clearance - this can be defined as the distance between the lowest point of the K1200GT's chassis and the level ground surface below it. The lower the ground clearance the better the handling but on the contrary higher clearance makes the bike more practical on uneven roads and off-road.BMW K1200GT bore and stroke diagram
- 79x59 bore and stroke - this is a term concerning the engine parameters describing the ratio between cylinder bore diameter and piston stroke. If bore and stroke have equal measures then the engine is called square. The bore diameter of BMW K1200GT is 79 mm and the stroke length is 59 mm as per its technical specification. If bore is bigger than stroke as it is with this BMW engine then we say that K1200GT has a short stroke engine.
- 13:1 compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. Motorcycles with higher compression ratio may be recommended to use premium fuel only in order to avoid engine knocking. If you got a motorcycle with a greater compression ratio for its specific engine it is getting better fuel economy than it would if it had a lesser compression ratio.
- Shaft final drive: Depending on the purpose of the motorcycle and its characteristics usually one among the three possible final drive options is preferred. On sport bikes the chain drive is preferred while most cruisers and touring bikes tend to be designed with belt or shaft drive. Bikes have been designed with all three variations of the final drive for many years and each of them has performed well for the purpose it's been used. The final drive of BMW K1200GT is shaft.
shaft final drive of motorcycleShaft drives are well know from their use in automobiles. The same conception applies when they are used on motorcycles - clean look, smooth movement and minimum maintenance required. On the other had they are the most expensive among the three options and add weight to the motorcycle. Also it is a fact that some minor power is lost because of the moving gears implemented in their design.
- Liquid cooling system: motorcycle engines can be air cooled or liquid cooled and they both have their advantages. Liquid cooling is better for the engine in high traffic and speeding but its biggest advantage is that liquid cooled engines tend to produce more horsepower.BMW K1200GT - installation of turn signals
- Replacing BMW K1200GT turn signals is an easy job and commonly considered a do it yourself project. Generally the motorcycle turn signals wires are color coded and disconnecting them is not a problem. After locating the bolts that hold them in position you will have to remove them. Complete the installation of the new BMW K1200GT turn signals by properly connecting the wires after they are securely mounted.BMW K1200GT protective cover
Since the dimensions of the BMW K1200GT are given in the specs that would help you get the right size motorcycle cover. Some aftermarket accessories can change the overall dimensions of the bike. A larger cover will be needed if the motorcycle has an additional backrest, sissy bar or panniers fitted.
