Ducati Motor Holding is an Italian motorcycle company founded back in 1926 by Antonio Cavalieri Ducati and his sons Adriano, Bruno and Marcello. However the company has been producing radio components the first years after its foundation. In 1950 Ducati announced their first own bike with 48cc engine and weight of 98lb achieving a top speed of 40mph. Producing the fastest 250cc road motorcycle in 1960 made them an unquestionable part of the motorcycling history.
Although Ducati have changed ownership several times over the years, the brand name has been kept unchanged. The current owner is Volkswagen Group with 99,55% of the company shares. Ducati are know as a manufacturer of high performance motorcycles with V-twin engines which also have been called L-twin engines because of the position of the cylinders ā€“ one vertical and one horizontal forming the letter ā€Lā€.
Most Ducati motorcycles can be recognized by the typical truss-like steel frame configuration.
The historic Ducati Monster was introduced in 1993 and has undergone many changes since then but remains the most popular model of the Italian manufacturer realizing 50% if the international sales. And while the Monster remain Ducati's top seller other models like Multistrada gain popularity among the touring motorcycles fans.
