BMW Motorrad experience 90 years of tradition and innovation. BMW R32 was the first motorcycle produced by the BMW company in 1923 with the typical boxer engine and shaft final drive. An interesting fact is that BMW has continued to use the shaft final drive for all their motorcycles produced afterwords till 1993 when they announced the chain driven model F650. Then in 1948 came their first postwar model – the 250cc R24 with telescopic front forks and compact one-cylinder 4-stroke engine providing 12 horse powers.
With the beginning of the new millennium BMW became more ecologically compatible and all their motorcycles since then have been designed with fitted catalytic converter.
In 2006 BMW announced the new G-series of off-road motorcycles developed in cooperation with Aprilia and built with single-cylinder water cooled engines with capacity of 652cc. They all featured fuel injection and chain drive.
BMW's most impressive sport bike S1000RR was announced in 2009 for the Superbike World Championship. It was powered by 999cc inline-4 engine providing 193hp power.
