Ducati Monster 1200 has bigger engine size than Kawasaki Z 800 but this is not a direct indicator for more power or better performance. The second bike has the advantage of greater compression ratio of 12.5:1 than the other one. This ratio is the relation of the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke to the volume in the cylinder when the gas is compressed and the piston is at the top of the stroke. When one of two bikes with same engine displacement has a higher compression ratio it also has a better fuel economy because the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber is burning at higher pressure and with better thermal efficiency.
Kawasaki Z 800 has a better fuel economy (44.4 mpg) compared to Ducati Monster 1200 which fuel economy is a 38.6 mpg. Miles per gallon (mpg) is one way of describing the fuel economy of a motorcycle and liters per 100 kilometers (l/100km) is another.
how to buy motorcycle tires Motorcycle tyres come in variety of sizes and these sizes are strongly specified for each model. Another considerable factor here is your own riding style. You need to know what the code designators printed on the tire mean in order to be able to find the proper size for your bike. The width of the tire measured in millimeters is shown first. Both motorcycles have the same with of their front tires - 120 mm. The next number refers to the tire profile. The third number shows the size of the rim - its diameter measured in inches. Buying motorcycle tires online can save you precious time and cash.
Ducati Monster 1200 has a better ground clearance of 155mm ( for Kawasaki Z 800 it is 150mm). The ground clearance is also called the ride height and that is the distance between the base of the tyre and underside of the motorcycle’s body (the chassis). In other words that is the shortest distance between the road surface and the lowest mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Comparing the top speed values of both motorcycles we can see that Ducati Monster 1200 is the faster one with 259km/h. As per the technical data of Kawasaki Z 800 it would be behind it on the highway with 245km/h. Sometimes of course motorcycle speed statistics may be contradictory from various sources.liquid cooling system of a motorcycle
Kawasaki Z 800 is liquid cooled and so is the Ducati Monster 1200. The tiny variations of the operating temperatures are one of the significant advantages of the liquid cooled motorcycles. Therefore liquid cooled motors can run with carburetion set to burn all the fuel in the mixture. The circulation of the coolant from the radiator to the engine is helped by the water pump. A thermostat turns on an electric fan to draw more air over the radiator in case the motorcycle slows down and the air flowing through the radiator is not enough to cool the liquid inside it to the desired level. However the water pump, the thermostat, the radiator and all the linking gear makes it a bit more complex.
motorcycle with chain final drive Both motorcycles Kawasaki Z 800 and Ducati Monster 1200 have the same final drive - chain. Chain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. However chains have their down points - more frequent need of maintenance (lubrication and cleaning) which means that a biker should always keep an eye on the chain especially in rainy days or dusty roads.
Compression ratio 11.9:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 11.9:1. Based on the information from the technical data of the motorcycles the values are accordingly 11.9:1 for Kawasaki Z 800 and 12.5:1 for Ducati Monster 1200. Premium fuel might be recommended for some motorcycles with high levels of compression ration in order to avoid engine knocking. Higher compression ratio means bigger pressure of the fuel/air mix in the combustion chamber and better efficiency achieved of its ignition.
Motorcycle oil is one of the most important components that keeps the engine running smoothly. Synthetic engine oils are considered the most technically advanced one and are more expensive than the mineral oils which come at lower price. 3700 miles (6000 km) between oil changes is widely accepted rule. More kilometers between two oil changes is accepted when synthetic oil is used. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. According to the technical specs the engine oil capacity is 3.4 litres for Kawasaki Z 800 and 3.7 litres for Ducati Monster 1200. When changing the oil it is advisable to put less than the specified oil capacity and to check the level. The best way to pour the exact quantity of oil is to observe the dipstick or the level sight window.
