The bigger engine size of Ducati Monster 1100 in comparison to Ducati Monster 796 doesn't mean that it is more powerful or better performing bike. The first of the bikes has a bigger compression ratio (11:1) which is economically better. This ratio is the relation of the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke to the volume in the cylinder when the gas is compressed and the piston is at the top of the stroke. When the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber has bigger pressure (higher compression ratio) when it is ignited then it burns more effectively and therefore these bikes tend to have better fuel economy (comparing engines with equal displacement).
The better fuel economy of 5.30 l/100km belongs to Ducati Monster 1100 compared to the Ducati Monster 796's fuel consumption of 5.60 l/100km. Miles per gallon (mpg) is one way of describing the fuel economy of a motorcycle and liters per 100 kilometers (l/100km) is another.
front and rear tiresIf the time to replace your motorcycle tyres has come then you need to find the proper new ones. Your type of riding is also to be taken into account here. The code designators located on the side of each tires is something that you should be aware of if you want to find proper tires for your bike. The width of the tire is represented by the first number. Both motorcycles Ducati Monster 796 and Ducati Monster 1100 have the same width of their tires - 120 mm for the front tire and 180 mm for the rear one. After that comes the aspect ration shown by the second number in the code. And the third number indicats the diameter of the rim in inches. Looking online for motorcycle tires is a good way to easily find the right size at low price.
Ducati Monster 1100 has a better ground clearance of 160mm ( for Ducati Monster 796 it is 150mm). Usually given in millimeters in the technical data sheets, the ground clearance refers to the space between ground level and underside of a motorcycle’s chassis and sometimes is called ride height. In other words that is the shortest distance between the road surface and the lowest mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Ducati Monster 796 is the faster of the two with top speed of 203 kilometers per hour against the max speed of 200 km/h specified to its opponent Ducati Monster 1100. While some motorcycle manufacturers pretend for precise top speed parameters, often these values are only approximate.motorcycle engine with fins for air cooling
Ducati Monster 796 is air cooled and so is the Ducati Monster 1100.
chain driven motorcycle The same final drive (chain) is used with these two bikes Ducati Monster 796 and Ducati Monster 1100. Most motorcycles are produced with chain drive because of its economical way to transfer power to the rear wheel and convey the biggest percentage of engine power in that process. Many bikers may complain of the need of constant care though. Since the chain is exposed to dust, sun and rain it needs to be periodically cleaned and properly lubricated.
compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. Based on the information from the technical data of the motorcycles the values are accordingly 11:1 for Ducati Monster 796 and 10.7:1 for Ducati Monster 1100. This is actually the relation between the biggest and the smallest capacity of the combustion chamber. With internal combustion engines the higher compression ratio allows higher efficiency because the combustion temperature is reached with less fuel.
The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. As a general rule it should be changed on every 6000 kilometers or 3700 miles. Synthetic oil can be changed less often though. The oil filter needs to be replaced too and that is usually to be done with the oil change. The oil capacity is 3.7 litres for both bikes according to the technical specs. This oil capacity values are with informative purpose only. The proper amount of oil needed is best judged while observing the reading on the level sight window (or the dipstick).
