A good way to figure out whether Ducati Monster 1100 or Ducati 1199 PANIGALE is better matching your personal style and requirements is to compare their specifications and features in details. When trying to make your mind on the next motorcycle, your personal levels of comfort should be the leading criteria. After comparing one motorcycle versus another and so on, the circle of favourite models will be then eventually narrowed to several ones. The best way to explore them is to actually sit on these bikes and check how much comfort you get with each of them.

Although Ducati 1199 PANIGALE has a bigger engine displacement than Ducati Monster 1100 it doesn't necessarily mean it is more powerful or better performing bike. The compression ration of the second of these bikes (12.5:1) is bigger than the other. This parameter shows how the volume in the engine cylinder when the piston is at the bottom end relates to the volume when the piston is at the top end. The bigger compression ratio means that the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber has a greater pressure and is burnt more effectively and therefore such a bike would have better fuel economy (talking about equal engine displacement).
Ducati Monster 1100 has a better fuel economy (44.4 mpg) compared to Ducati 1199 PANIGALE which fuel economy is a 34.1 mpg. The fuel economy of a motorcycle is either measured in mpg or l/100km, the first showing how many miles can be ridden with a gallon of fuel and the second showing how many litters of fuel are consumed on a 100km ride.
front and rear tiresIf the time to replace your motorcycle tyres has come then you need to find the proper new ones. Your individual riding style is another factor that determines which type is appropriate in your case. To get the proper tire size requires that you know the meaning of the numbers and letters printed on the side of each tire. The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. Both motorcycles have the same with of their front tires - 120 mm. The next number refers to the tire profile. How many inches is the diameter of the rim - that is what the tird number reveals. Prices of motorcycle tires can easily be compared online and purchesed at good price.
Ducati Monster 1100 has a better ground clearance of 160mm ( for Ducati 1199 PANIGALE it is 125mm). Usually given in millimeters in the technical data sheets, the ground clearance refers to the space between ground level and underside of a motorcycle’s chassis and sometimes is called ride height. In other words that is the shortest distance between the road surface and the lowest mechanical part of the motorcycle.
Ducati 1199 PANIGALE is the bike with higher tested top speed (296km/h). On the other side Ducati Monster 1100 can achieve speed of 200km/h on the highway. While some motorcycle manufacturers pretend for precise top speed parameters, often these values are only approximate.
final drive implemented with chain These two motorcycles (Ducati Monster 1100 and Ducati 1199 PANIGALE) have the same type of final drive which is chain. Chain drives are by far the most popular final drive technology in the history of motorcycles and are the most economical way to drive power from the engine to the rear wheel. The down points of the chain drive are the frequent maintenance required as it needs to be regularly cleaned and oiled. Besides it is not as smooth as a shaft or belt drive.
Compression ratio 10.7:1 means that the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke refers to the volume of gas when the piston is at the top of its stroke as 10.7:1. Based on the information from the technical data of the motorcycles the values are accordingly 10.7:1 for Ducati Monster 1100 and 12.5:1 for Ducati 1199 PANIGALE. In other words it represents how tightly the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber is pressed before the ignition. It plays a big role in engine efficiency because bigger compression ratio means better thermal efficiency and more mileage with the same amount of gas.
The good quality of the engine oil is an important factor in keeping the motorcycle in peak condition. Many different types of engine oils are available as minerral, part-synthetic and synthetic and they all come at different price. It is commonly accepted engine oil to be changed on every 3700 miles (6000 kilometers). With synthetic oil though you can run as far as 8000 kilometers (5000 miles). Depending on the oil filter it needs to be replaced on each or every two oil changes. As per the technical specs both motorcycles have the same engine oil capacity of 3.7 litres. The oil capacity information is only to get an idea of how much oil roughly will be needed on oilchange. The proper amount of oil needed is best judged while observing the reading on the level sight window (or the dipstick).
