motorcycle reviews: Yamaha Honda Suzuki Kawasaki BMW Harley Davidson Aprilia Ducati Triumph KTM Hyosung |
Comparing the technical specifications of BMW K1600GT and Kawasaki GTR1400 Concours is a proper way to figure out which one of these motorcycles matches better your individual preferences and expectations. When you know what specifications and features of a motorcycle will make you personally comfortable with it then your choice should be all about this criteria. After comparing one motorcycle versus another and so on, the circle of favourite models will be then eventually narrowed to several ones. The best way to explore them is to actually sit on these bikes and check how much comfort you get with each of them.
Although BMW K1600GT has a bigger engine displacement than Kawasaki GTR1400 Concours it doesn't necessarily mean it is more powerful or better performing bike. We can see that the compression ratio of the first of this bikes is 12.2:1 and is the bigger one. It represents the relation between the biggest and the smallest volume in the combustion chamber while the piston is performing its stroke movement. When one of two bikes with same engine displacement has a higher compression ratio it also has a better fuel economy because the mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber is burning at higher pressure and with better thermal efficiency. The advantage of better fuel economy goes to BMW K1600GT consuming 5.70 liters per 100 kilometers. On the other hand Kawasaki GTR1400 Concours is consuming 6.60 liters on every 100 kilometer trip. Measuring the fuel economy in mpg shows how many miles of ride are covered by a gallon of fuel and measuring in l/100km shows the average fuel consumption in litters for every 100 kilometers riding. ![]() The ground clearance of BMW K1600GT (165mm) is bigger than the one of Kawasaki GTR1400 Concours (bbb2mm). Usually given in millimeters in the technical data sheets, the ground clearance refers to the space between ground level and underside of a motorcycle’s chassis and sometimes is called ride height. That, in other words, is the smallest distance between any mechanical body part of the motorcycle and the surface of the road. The top speed of 254km/h makes Kawasaki GTR1400 Concours the faster of the two motorcycles. The other one (BMW K1600GT) can achieve a maximum speed of 250km/h according to its technical specifications. Sometimes of course motorcycle speed statistics may be contradictory from various sources. ![]() Those two motorcycle use the same cooling system - liquid. The tiny variations of the operating temperatures are one of the significant advantages of the liquid cooled motorcycles. Once the operating temperature is reached (the engine is warmed up), it runs at a pretty constant temperature. The coolant is circulating into the radiator and back to the engine driven by the water pump. If the motorcycle slows down to a point where the air flowing through the radiator is not enough to lower the temperature of the coolant to the needed level, a thermostat will typically switch an electric fan on to increase the air flow through the radiator. Water jackets in a liquid cooled engine act as sound insulators and make it quieter. ![]() compression ratio is a value that represents the ratio of the volume of gas in the cylinder when the piston is at the lowest point it is ever gonna go down and the volume of gas when the piston is at its highest point. Its value for BMW K1600GT is 12.2:1 and for Kawasaki GTR1400 Concours is 10.7:1 based on the technical data of the motorcycles. In other words it represents how tightly the mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber is pressed before the ignition. It plays a big role in engine efficiency because bigger compression ratio means better thermal efficiency and more mileage with the same amount of gas. One of the most important aspects of the basic level of maintenance of a motorcycle is the engine oil. There are different types at different prices on the market - mineral, highperformance, all-purpose part-synthetic and synthetic oil. As a general rule it should be changed on every 6000 kilometers or 3700 miles. The quality of the synthetic oil allows up to 5000 miles (8000 km) between oil changes. Replacing the oil filter is also to be considered on each engine oil change. According to the technical specs the engine oil capacity is 4.5 litres for BMW K1600GT and 4.0 litres for Kawasaki GTR1400 Concours. When changing the oil it is advisable to put less than the specified oil capacity and to check the level. The proper amount of oil needed is best judged while observing the reading on the level sight window (or the dipstick). |
